Background

Alturrick Kenney graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science. He then went to Rutgers business school and attained a mini MBA. He served as Deputy Mayor for the city of Newark before being an Education Consultant at Universal Technical Institute. Kenney was also the Director of a political actionfund for Communications Workers of America Local 1039 and the Manager of Port Activities for Newark [1]. During his time as Surrogate, Kenney received the Excellence in Business and Community Service Award from Project Re-Direct and the Newark NAACP Award for Community Service. In addition, Kenney has served as a member of the Newark Public Schools Advisory Board, Manager for Newark’s Port Activities and Business Development, and Chair of The Port Oversight Committee [2].
