Carly West Gelles obtained her bachelor’s degree in English with an emphasis in Education from Old Dominion University, and she earned a master’s degree in Education. Gelles has worked at CMA-CGM, as well as an administrative assistant at Tidewater Community College. She currently teaches English at I.C. Norcom High School .
Gelles wants schools to partner with the community in order to aid students who are left out of the current mental health help system .
Gelles hopes to partner with community centers to create after-school mentoring programs to help under-acheiving students. She also wants to partner with industry leaders in the Hampton Roads area to help students graduate with desired qualities for employment, as well as partnering with trades certification programs .
Gelles plans to purchase devices to secure doors during lockdowns and hire additional security .
