|DawnMarie Brittingham earned a BS in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies from Old Dominion University, a Master’s degree in Exceptional Student Education and Educational Therapy from Southeastern University, and a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Southeastern University. Brittingham has worked as an elementary school teacher at First Baptist Christian School and now works as an educational therapist at Suffolk Christian Academy . Brittingham is a Level III Professionally Certified Educational Therapist (P.C.E.T.) from the National Institute for Learning Development in 2008 to help students with learning challenges . She is running to represent Holy Neck on the School Board .|
Brittingham prioritizes transparency and accountability. She wants to increase detail, specificity, and transparency of the budget, and she wants the SPS budget to undergo a full forensic audit .
Brittingham hopes to increase staffing and hire more resource officers at problematic campuses in order to bolster school safety .
Brittingham wants to improve communication between the School Board and the City Council and wants SPS, Law Enforcement Agencies, and City Council to be more involved in developing a strategic plan for how they will respond and provide support in the event of an emergency .
Brittingham supports the influence of parents in education. She is against the teaching of critical race theory in schools and believes it is racist. Brittingham is against the teaching of SEL lessons by teachers, as teachers have less experience with it than individuals who have many years of training, certifications, or specific degrees .
