Sitka enlisted in the Navy in 1974 and retired as Chief Quartermaster in 1994 before becoming a Merchant Mariner. Sitka graduated from Liberty University in 2002 with an MA in professional counseling and with a doctor of education leadership in 2016. Sitka also worked as an intern for mental health on the Community Services Board of Virginia Beach in 2000 and previously worked as a Director for Maritime Credentialing with San Jacinto College Maritime. Sitka previously ran for election to Ward 3 of Norfolk Public Schools in 2002 [1, 6, 7].
Sitka wants to perform educational reform through the creation of simplified phonetic and mathematical curricula for early students, ensuring that the Virginia Department of Education has sufficient infrastructure to support special needs students and that every public school has at least one school resource officer .
Sitka wants to develop multiple new clean and environmentally friendly alternative energy sources in Virginia, as well as improve infrastructure to respond to natural disasters .
Sitka wants to support Virginia’s elderly population by promoting mental health resources for seniors, as well as remedying food insecurity and homelessness through new initiatives to resolve late-life financial crises .
