Background

Kari LaBell earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She would additionally receive a master’s degree at George Mason University, as well as an Educational Specialist Degree from George Washington University [1, 3].

As an educator with over 30 years of experience in Loudoun Country and 50 years of experience in education as a whole, LaBell has served as a teacher, department chair, and vocational evaluator. She helped develop the IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and was asked to revise the Standards of Learning Vocational Goals in Virginia [1, 3].

LaBell does not want special education practices to leave special needs students discriminated against. She believes that taking corrective action will aid these students suffering from program cuts in various schools [5].
