Kari LaBell earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She would additionally receive a master’s degree at George Mason University, as well as an Educational Specialist Degree from George Washington University [1, 3].

As an educator with over 30 years of experience in Loudoun Country and 50 years of experience in education as a whole, LaBell has served as a teacher, department chair, and vocational evaluator. She helped develop the IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and was asked to revise the Standards of Learning Vocational Goals in Virginia [1, 3].

LaBell does not want special education practices to leave special needs students discriminated against. She believes that taking corrective action will aid these students suffering from program cuts in various schools [5].

Parent Involvement

LaBell advocates for returning the control of educational guidance back into the hands of the parents through the use of parent teacher organizations. She believes that this will identify problems and concerns, as well as a place to foster solutions and ideas [5]. 


LaBell supports the creation of a K-12 program to introduce students to available jobs, as well as the skills required for success in those occupations; this would aim to provide invaluable training without creating student debt [2, 5].
