Kathy Smith graduated from Muhlenberg College with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and elementary education. Smith was an elementary school teacher for 7 years and has served as PTA President in Poplar Tree Elementary School, Rocky Run Middle School, and Chantilly High School. She served for 13 years on the Fairfax County School Board before being elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2015 [1, 2, 3].
Smith wants to make sure schools are adequately equipped to support the growing population and help kids succeed .
Smith supports evaluating all programs and cutting unnecessary duplicates in order to use revenue effectively . She advocates for resource allocation to mental health services and senior citizen care .
Smith wants to focus on relieving regional traffic congestion, expanding public transportation systems, and ensuring that citizens’ opinions are considered when deciding transportation infrastructure matters .
