Background

Born in Virginia, Kirkland was raised in Maine and attended Harvard College where he received an A.B. magna cum laude in 1984 and then received an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University in 1988 [1].  

Kirkland co-founded Kirkland Messina, Inc., an investment banking firm. He is now the owner of Club One Casino, president of the California Gaming Association, and founder of Kirkland Foundation, a non profit animal rescue [3,4].
