Lee Kaplan earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs from Princeton University in 1973 [1]. He graduated from The University of Texas, School of Law in 1976. In 1977, he joined the Baker Botts Law Firm as an associate and became a partner in 1984 [2]. Kaplan then founded a firm in 1995 called Smyser Kaplan & Veselka, L.L.P. [1]. 

It has been found that Lee Kaplan accepted illicit donations from contractors during a period in the election where candidates were forbidden from taking any donations for a time [5].
