Background
Durig graduated from Wright State University in 1979 with a BS in music education and from Norfolk State University in 2004 with a master’s in music. Durig entered military service in 1992 as a Navy Bandsman and worked with the Fleet Forces Band in Norfolk until an honorable discharge in 2000. Durig also worked as the owner of a live music contracting business until 2021 and taught in Portsmouth and Virginia Beach City Public Schools until his retirement in 2019. This is Durig’s first experience running for public office [7].

Education
Durig wants to reform the Virginia education system by limiting the influence of “progressive federal programs” and instead focusing on community needs in education by reforming Standards of Learning in Virginia.
