Background

Murphy was raised in Chula Vista in San Diego. Murphy went to St. Augustine High School and later attended San Diego State University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1992. Murphy went on to receive his Juris Doctor at the University of San Diego School of Law in 1995 [1, 2, 4]. Murphy began his service at the California Department of Justice in 1996, where he was hired as a Deputy Attorney General. Murphy has served as a prosecutor in San Diego County for 25 years [1, 2].

Murphy feels that a one-size-fits-all approach is not the best way to deal with those who violate laws. He wants to employ both punishment and rehabilitation for criminals. Murphy hopes to exercise compassion and fairness for everyone involved in a particular case [1].
