Petrina Carter received a BS in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an MS in Training and Development from the University of St. Francis. 
She has served on the Boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters and worked for Southside Virginia Society for Human Resource Professionals and the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act of the West Piedmont (WIOA). In addition, she was the Senior Manager for the Virginia Employment Commission’s Danville Local Office and the Director of Career Services at Averett University. 
She is the CEO and President of Tri-County Community Action Agency, a nonprofit organization that attempts to “eliminate the violence of poverty through advocacy, empowerment and self-sufficiency.” 
Carter believes that a strong educational system is a top priority. She believes that there is a lot of improvement to be made in the Danville educational system .
Carter believes that Danville would benefit from the consolidation of new businesses in the area. She also believes that repairing the economy from the effects of COVID-19 should be a top priority .
Carter supports the selection of Amanda Paez as Danville’s first Chief Equity Officer, as well as the original creation of the office .
