Susan Matura graduated from Carleton College with a B.A. She previously worked as a personal and small business lender at multiple banks . In 2019, Matura was elected to the Paradise Valley Unified School District Governing Board and has served since then . She currently serves as Governing Board President .
Aside from her professional roles, Matura has been active in the education community, having served on multiple parent councils, PTOs, school councils, and committees. She is also involved in the Pinnacle Presbyterian Church, serving as a volunteer and leader .
Matura supports regular communication with education stakeholders including families and teachers about board decisions. She would like to maintain professional and constructive discussions with all individuals involved and create a productive space where voices are represented. She recommends outreach tools such as surveys and committees to communicate effectively .
Matura wants to ensure that the board hires qualified educators for the school district and maintains a relationship with educators and other stakeholders in order to retain teachers .
Matura supports assessing individual students’ educational needs when designing a classroom curriculum. She wants to focus on providing a high-quality education for each student to help them succeed academically .
Matura wants to use district resources effectively to promote a supportive learning environment for all students .
