Tyson Cooper graduated from Lower Columbia College with an Associate of Arts and Sciences, from Southern Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts and History, and from Liberty University with an MA in Management and Leadership [1, 3, 4, 5]. He has formerly worked as the Executive Director of Financial Aid and Vice President of Financial Operations at Southern Virginia University [1, 3, 4]. Cooper currently works as the Chief Financial Officer for Southern Virginia University and as the President and Senior Consultant of Cooper Family Enterprises [1, 3, 4, 5]. He formerly served as a board member on the Lexington-Rockbridge Chamber of Commerce, as a board member on the Economic Development Authority, and as Vice Mayor of the City of Buena Vista. Cooper is currently a councilman on the Buena Vista City Council and is running for Mayor [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
Cooper wants to find common ground with other council members and work closer with the school district. He wants to consult citizens, business owners, elected officials, government employees and other groups to build a long-term vision for the city [2, 4].
