Background

Vernon Lamont Tillage earned his BS in Political Science and Government from Old Dominion University. He has served on the Portsmouth School Board since 2021 [4]. Tillage has served as a legislative assistant in the Virginia General Assembly and a Regional Outreach Representative in the United States Senate. He has also managed various local campaigns in the city of Portsmouth. Tillage currently serves as the Community Affairs Coordinator for Virginia Natural Gas. In 2021, he was recognized by the Old Dominion University Alumni Association and was awarded their inaugural “Top 40 Under 40” award. Tillage is currently the Chair of the Portsmouth Democratic Committee and the Board President of Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court, Inc [1]. At the age of 26, Tillage is the youngest person ever elected to serve on a public body in the City of Portsmouth [3].
