The Team

Each state’s chapter of The Polling Place is led by three regional directors, who lead teams in charge of research, the website, and social media/outreach.

Arjun Surya | TX Director of Website

Arjun is a senior at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. He is interested in economics and public policy, and wants to pursue a career in either field in the future. Arjun is a nationally recognized debater in Public Forum Debate and is also one of the captains for his high school team. Through The Polling Place, he hopes to improve public knowledge about national and local elections so that voters have greater efficacy and feel emboldened to cast their ballots. In his free time, he loves making pizza, riding his bike, and playing the guitar.

Iris Cheng | TX Director of Research

Iris is a junior at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. Her primary interests include philosophy, business, and public policy. Iris is co-captain of speech at her speech and debate team and enjoys reading critical literature regarding racial and reproductive equity. Through The Polling Place, Iris hopes to promote electoral transparency and increase Texan turnout in local elections. In her free time, Iris enjoys listening to SZA songs, shopping, and getting brunch with her friends.

Aminah Faridi | TX Director of Social Media/Outreach

Aminah is a sophomore at Emerson high school. She is interested in advocating for civil rights issues and foreign policies. Aminah enjoys participating in local community services, like refugee centers. Through The Polling Place, she seeks to increase her knowledge and others’ knowledge about voting. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music and spending time with friends and family.
